Located in Singapore a woodlands suburb that is home to some of the best contemporary houses in the country the was in need of a major overhaul. The original façade was both old and cramped and featured interiors that were poorly lit and visually suffocating. But Hong Kong-based Locus Associates transformed the house into a beautiful modern home with a style of its own!
Even though it is hard to look beyond the view outside the real showstopper here is the silhouette of the structure that draws its inspiration from the banana slug which is a native of the region! The thin and elongated volume of the house bends and conforms to the undulated natural contours of the site.
This stylish private residence was designed by McLeod Bovell Modern Houses to capitalize as much as possible on the lovely view outside. While the street façade of the house offers ample privacy its rear opens up to the backyard and the ocean thanks to the extensive use of sliding glass doors and windows.
Cantilevered 12 feet back from the edge of the bluff the outdoor sitting areas and the patio give you the impression of hanging precariously above the Pacific Ocean. The main living area is housed at the front of the home with a smart kitchen and dining space becoming a part of the open floor plan.
Though the house predominantly uses white and silvery grey pops of yellow green and blue add instant brightness and elevate the ambiance. An entertainment area kids’ bedrooms and the master bedroom and bath are tucked away on the top level. Exposed steel beams and the overwhelming presence of glass also give the home a hint of an industrial vibe.
